Do you know about the "Dirty Dozen"?

An article in the August edition of Woman's Day magazine caught my eye this morning. It provided a list of the "Environmental Working Group's Dirty Dozen" - the top 12 fruits and vegetables that contain the most pesticides. The article suggests that if you can't afford to buy all organic meat, fruits and vegetables, you should at least buy the organic version of these 12 found to be highest in pesticides.

If you'd like the complete list of fruits and vegetables tested, you can find it here.

Buy these organic!
  1. Apples
  2. Celery
  3. Strawberries
  4. Peaches
  5. Spinach
  6. Nectarines (imported)
  7. Grapes (imported)
  8. Sweet Bell Peppers
  9. Potatoes
  10. Blueberries
  11. Lettuce
  12. Kale/collard greens
These non-organic produce are LOWEST IN PESTICIDES

  1. Onions
  2. Sweet corn
  3. Pineapples
  4. Avacado
  5. Asparagus
  6. Sweet peas
  7. Mangoes
  8. Eggplant
  9. Cantelope (domestic)
  10. Kiwi
  11. Cabbage
  12. Watermelon
  13. Sweet potatoes
  14. Grapefruit
  15. Mushrooms
Please note that the last group of 15 does not mean these items are pesticide free -- only that they are the lowest in pesticides of those tested.

I plan on printing out the list and tucking it in with my grocery shopping list. I've mentioned before that Mr. B is an extremely fussy eater, so the few fruits and vegetables I can get into him I want to make sure are the healthiest!
